You may know Robin Barnes as the lady with the powerful voice who performed during one of our many summer events at Twist. If so, that's great because you're already familiar with this talented singer and her impressive vocal range! Robin will be back doing what she does best at all three nights of the upcoming fashion week (March 21-25). As guests make their way into the courtyard of The Sugarmill, they'll be greeted with a performance by the 'New Orleans songbird' that will consist of her renditions of songs by jazz musicians to rhythm and blues singers, etc. However, before you hear the voice, we want to provide you with a semi-intimate look at who Robin Barnes is. FW NOLA: Who are your musical inspirations?
Robin Barnes: Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, and Irma Thomas. All three women have such a powerful voices while managing to have such grace and class. These days, I really like Adele and Corinne Bailey Rae.
FW NOLA: Who would you most like to open for?
Robin Barnes: I'd love to open for Trombone Shorty, he is such a New Orleans talent. I admire the fact that he can balance being this amazing artist from New Orleans which grounds him yet still rocks out as an international star. I enjoy the excitement he brings to the stage and his audience.
FW NOLA: Who is your favorite designer? And why?
Robin Barnes: I love Jolie and Elizabeth!! Their dresses always make me feel like a southern belle. Their clothes are created and manufactured in Louisiana. They bring NOLA traditions to the world with a refreshing twist.
FW NOLA: What plans do you have for FW NOLA show?
Robin Barnes: Sing my heart out and give my best performance to date!
FW NOLA: What else can we expect from you in the future?
Robin Barnes: Music lives in my blood and I know it is something I will do for the rest of my life. I am currently working on my debut album, due for release later this year. In it, I want people to get a sense of RMB as an artist and as a person. Ultimately, the fire and passion that wakes me up and drives me...all of the good times and not so good times are experiences that I want to share with people all over the world through my music and my voice.
